Developing power without using Olympic weightlifting

Olympic weightlifting is one of my favourite ways to improve athletes power, but it is not the only way. Here are a few exercises that will improve on field power production. It’s important any exercises that are used to develop power are performed with maximum intent and increased velocities.

These are presented from lowest intensity to greatest intensity. The greatest intensity exercises are not ideal for beginners. 

  1. Pogos 
  2. Box jump
  3. Med ball chest pass
  4. Squat jump
  5. Broad jump
  6. Jump slams
  7. Vertical jump with 90º turn
  8. Trapper jump
  9. DB split jerks
  10. Single arm med ball throw
  11. Lateral single leg bounds
  12. Drop jump
  13. Split jumps
